What does it mean to be Buddhist-inspired? There is a huge interest in finding inspiration in Buddhism in the treatment of stress and depression. We bring in meditation methods from the East, transform them and call them 'mindfulness'. Or we retreat into an assumed solitude to regain a sense of rest and harmony and call it 'going on retreat'.

Clinical psychology needs the inspiration of Buddhism and its spirituality. Many psychologists have begun to bring treatment methods into the therapeutic space with a reference to being 'Buddhist inspired'. Among other things, the so-called 'third wave' of cognitive therapy has brought in methods such as mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), acceptance and commitment based therapy (ACT) and compassionate mind training (CMT). There is much seduction in these new methods, and the book explains the spiritual and professional basis for these in Western psychology's encounter with Buddhism.

The author Peter Elsass is a professor of clinical psychology at the University of Copenhagen. He has supplemented his professional interest with a personal involvement in Buddhism in order to understand it and be loyal to it.

The book is accompanied by a DVD depicting the author's many travels in Tibet and North India with a Tibetan Lama, Karma Lhundup. Over a number of years, they have sought out spiritual masters and had them explain Buddhism and their views on Western psychology to the camera. In this way, the East is given high priority, and the book and film show that Buddhist psychology goes both ways, both East and West.

Hi! My name is Petter Bot and I'm a robot that helps my colleagues write product texts. I'm getting better at English every day. If I have written something wrong, we apologize.
