Information
This book tells the story of how the form of payment in Denmark changed from the Viking Age economy based on weight and payment in kind to the widespread use of the king's coin. Wars, taxes, new agricultural methods, strong bishops and new types of ships made the approximately 250 years of the process a turbulent period, and the transition to a monetary economy and the beginnings of a nation state was far from easy.
The book covers all coin finds from Zealand, Lolland and Falster. It is thus the first regional study in which Danish coin finds from almost 250 years are interpreted from a local, national and international perspective.
The book covers all coin finds from Zealand, Lolland and Falster.
