In Culture and Society, students gain knowledge about what characterizes the three subjects individually, what methods and concepts are used, and how the subjects work together to illuminate current social and cultural topics such as refugees, identity and solidarity in the welfare state. Therefore, Culture and Society is aimed at both the common subject and the special subject test in the subject.

The publication is problem-oriented and first provides a common subject introduction and then a special subject treatment of five topics:
- What creates your identity?
- Is democracy under threat?
- Who are you in solidarity with?
- Do we have room for refugees?
- China: From Mao to market?
Culture and Society contains a wide range of topical texts, images and tables that motivate the student for academic work. The publication is task-based, student-activating and appeals to different learning styles. In addition, a section shows students how to methodically formulate a problem statement and formulate questions at different taxonomic levels.
