A major work on glass art in Denmark. The book provides an overall picture of glass decorations in Denmark over the past 50 years, and it reviews the diversity of techniques and expressive possibilities in Danish glass art through a wealth of examples.

In Denmark, we have a unique tradition of glass decorations in public spaces: in town halls, churches, museums, squares, educational institutions, etc. According to author Ole Villadsen, glass art is the frescoes of our time.

Glass art covers painting, sculpture and the classic mosaic. They are diverse and different, but what they have in common is the way they capture the viewer and fascinate us because they are based on an interplay between architecture, space and its function, and the artistic impression.

Maja Lisa Engelhardt's decorations in Danish churches, Olafur Eliasson's rainbow on top of Aros and Malene Landgreen's glass walls at Aalborg Airport are among the best-known works. But more than 60 artists have decorated the Danish space with glass - often in collaboration with glassmaker Per Hebsgaard, who has a prominent role in the book.

The book analyzes and describes a number of selected glass decorations in Denmark over the past 50 years, it contains interviews with both artists and glassmakers, an extensive index of exhibition venues and artist biographies.

Ole Villadsen is a former lecturer in visual arts and art history and a member of the board of the Fundación Valpariso refuge in Spain. He has written a number of acclaimed books on visual art and architecture for teaching at various levels of education.
