HENRY DUNBAR, the once powerful head of a global media empire, is tucked away in a sanatorium in the North West of England. He has handed over responsibility for the billion-dollar corporation to his two eldest daughters, Abby and Megan. In cahoots with their mutual lover, the lying Dr. Bob, they have ensured that their senile father has unwittingly ingested a paranoia-inducing drug, and now the media mogul has had second thoughts. Dunbar plans his escape from the sanitarium, and when he escapes into the mountainous countryside, his family is hot on his heels. But who will find him first? His worried youngest daughter, Florence, who senses trouble, or the predators Abby and Megan?

DUNBAR is a darkly humorous family tragedy, an examination of our times and an exploration of the concepts of greed, power and forgiveness.

"Dunbar is immensely well-turned entertainment; comedy that not only skewers the rottenness of the media world and the hollowness of the motives of the super-rich, but also dares to bring words like gratitude and blessing into play."

'St Aubyn's stylistic hallmark is a razor-sharp, caustic and violently expressive prose.'
Jyllands-Posten, 5 stars out of 6★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

'A bitter portrait of an unhappy family written both entertainingly and aptly with room for both tears and laughter ... '
Nordjyske Stiftstidende, 4 stars out of 6 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

'Funny and corrosively evil.'
Ekstra Bladet, 5 stars out of 6★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

"Edward St Aubyn has a razor-sharp, satirical pen, and he likes to use it on the upper class and its ruthlessness and decadence. To match him with a retelling of Shakespeare's most vicious family tragedy, King Lear, is something of a stroke of genius."

Harry Dunbar's attempts to return to his vast empire are depicted with Edward St. Aubyn's linguistic drill at full speed, and up swirls a harrowing tale of greed, cynicism, abuse of power, manipulation and betrayal within and outside the familial framework that makes 'DUNBAR' one of those novels that makes a good read even better.'
Lolland-Falsters Folketidende

'Perhaps the most surprising and daring thing about Aubyn's stylistically virtuoso re-versioning of King Lear is that he changes genre, from unmixed tragedy to grim tragicomedy (...) Does he succeed? By his bluntness and satirical verve: yes.' Weekendavisen

'A terrific story about a media mogul who regrets leaving his empire to his daughters.' Sunday

'DUNBAR is both cruel and hilarious and definitely not for the faint of heart, but that much should already be clear from the Shakespeare play on which it is based. It's a fast-paced tale that can be hard to wrap your head around in places, but it's deeply entertaining nonetheless. It can therefore only receive yours truly's warmest recommendations.' Lituna.dk
