On International Women's Day, March 8, 2017, the book 'Det skete på Kvindeudstillingen Charlottenborg 1975' - written by Birgit Pontoppidan - was launched at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
In connection with the launch, the author of the book could be seen in conversation with Sanne Kofod, Rector of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' Schools of Visual Arts, about the book and the Women's Exhibition XX, 1975.
On the cover of the book, Birgit Pontoppidan writes: "The crowd at Charlottenborg and the queue out to Kongens Nytorv was an indicator that something unusual and big was happening in Copenhagen on that cold December day in 1975. It was the day the Women's Exhibition opened at Charlottenborg. 42 female Danish artists exhibited with the 50 invited international female artists.
There was entertainment every day. There was art on the walls, there were happenings, there was dance, opera, plays, rock and song, poetry readings and lectures, there were many people to meet and talk to. There were children, men and women.
In short, it was a great extended party for the mind, sight and presence. But what was on display, who were the women and how did the exuberant energy come about. You can read about it in this book.
The Women's Exhibition was unique, and in this book I give my contribution to describing it. The exhibition is still talked about by foreign female artists as being the hearth of their first meeting with their colleagues from other countries."
