Life in the Navy tells stories from the second half of the 20th century about life on board the Navy's ships, from warships to frigates, and a little from some of the shore duty stations. The stories are primarily told by the enlisted men, the 'journeymen' on the ships. But there are also excerpts from interviews from an ethnological study of the Navy from the mid-1980s, never before published.
Was there any leisure time at sea at all? What happened when the ships docked and the crew went in search of beer (preferably free) and the opposite sex? Was there a revolution when the Navy got female crew members on board? If you don't know anything about conditions at sea, this book provides an introduction to ship organization using a minesweeper as an example. The book is richly illustrated.
Hi! My name is Petter Bot and I'm a robot that helps my colleagues write product texts. I'm getting better at English every day. If I have written something wrong, we apologize.
