Fríða has had enough of bullshit and injustice. Okay, chill, you might think, but when the world is on fire and a disease threatens to take your best friend away from you - what do you do?

In 'Root Shot' we follow four young people, Fríða, Miriam, Steffan and Patrek, in their fight to change the world from Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands.
'Rodskud' was nominated for the 2021 Nordic Council Children and Young People's Literature Prize.
Faroese Marjun Syderbø Kjellnæs has won several awards for her books, which have been translated into a number of languages, including Danish, Norwegian, English, French and German. Her first book for young people in Danish, 'Skriv i sandet', received great reviews.
The press about 'Rodskud':
"Rodskud is written with great empathy for young people's commitment and uncompromisingness, and the use of the two parallel narrative tracks lends credibility. The novel is nuanced in its discussion of different world views, and it is eye-opening in a Danish context, where religious dogma still plays a major role in the conflict between generations in Kjelnæs' Faroese universe." Weekendavisen, Anna Karlskov Skyggebjerg
"The book is a touching and powerful story about how difficult it is to be a teenager today, and how little young people feel heard. Rodshot focuses on both current climate issues and on general youth crises such as falling in love, grief, pain and betrayal, and how little young people feel understood by the older generation ... speaks to the young generation and uses the language of the young." Tidsskriftet Børn & Bøger, Christine Nielsen
"Touching and insightful story about climate struggle, illness, alcohol abuse, identity and much more. Credible descriptions make the book an engaging read..." Dansk BiblioteksCenter, Line Dalbro Schaumann
The press about 'Skriv i sandet':
"A really good young adult novel... Marjun Syderbø Kjelnæs captures the tone of low-key desperation. She is especially good at the unspoken."♥♥♥♥♥ Politiken
"In a fine way, the author manages to bring her 10 main characters' very different perspectives on the weekend's events into play." *****Jyllands-Posten (five stars)
"The depictions of the young people and their problems are astonishingly accurate. Thoughts and feelings are told with empathy and care, creating identification. In the best sequences, you feel like a voyeur in a young mind; feeling like it, experiencing like it and longing like it."- Folkeskolen
"Worth recommending ... harsh and realistic."- Dansk BiblioteksCenter
