Our lives are shaped by the stories we are surrounded by. Stories are important for identity, for communities and, not least, for the ability to create meaning and coherence in life. Stories make it possible to understand the past, negotiate meaning and integrate change. Life narratives are a special genre that plays a role in people's identity and is used in various forms of educational and social work. Background to the book The ability to listen to others and create a good storytelling environment is crucial in many professional contexts. We need perspectives on life other than our own. Stories make it possible to empathize with and share other people's experiences. The book describes the dimensions and preconditions of narratives, cultural, bodily and cognitive. Narratives are considered both as a phenomenon, whose form and content can be analyzed, and as a communicative act when stories are created and exchanged between people. Special emphasis is placed on the development of storytelling skills and the importance of becoming a good storyteller. Who might benefit from reading this book? Tales of existence - acquisition and application is a basic book for anyone who wants to work with stories. It is aimed at educators and teachers, healthcare professionals and students who want to learn about narrative methods. This means that the possible applications range from introducing narrative games in kindergarten to narrative medicine.
