The Birds in My Garden is a narrative book for young and old about the birds that can live in your garden. The focus is not just on cold facts, but on the quirks and characteristics of the different birds. The language is written in a tone that children can relate to, such as when it says about the blue tit that 'it is a small, blue bird with a yellow breast, white cheeks and black racing goggles.' As a special feature, there are not only pictures of the birds, but also of their eggs, favorite meal, nest, etc. The book is richly illustrated with beautiful color drawings of the birds and also includes illustrations that show a bit about bird anatomy and how to distinguish between different types of feathers. Finally, there is inspiration and ideas for what to do with the birds in your garden. For example, an idea on how to turn a tree in the garden into a bird feeder tree using brownie tins and straws, or how to make a bird bath out of a rhubarb leaf.
The book includes illustrations and descriptions of the following birds:
Red-necked woodpecker - Great spotted woodpecker - Chaffinch - Blue tit - Nuthatch - Nuthatch - Great tit - Great tit - Great tit - Green iris - Yellowhammer - Goldfinch - Goldfinch - Blackbird - House sparrow - Bullfinch - Wren
