On April 26, 1986, three 12-year-old children experience a very special camping trip with budding crushes, friendships and a feeling of not belonging. But they also find that the mild winds of the spring night bring with them a rainstorm that carries a very special 'cargo' from Chernobyl.

Nearly 30 years later, the same people discover that they each possess their own special superpower. It starts off as an ordinary day for James McDougal. He's wandering around Stockholm after work, doing nothing. He's alone as always, looking at accessories for his massive surround sound system at home. He sits down at a café and drinks a beer. As he sits there alone at his table, he surreptitiously glances at all the others who are in town with friends and work colleagues. Suddenly, he spots Maria Nagy, the girl from the spring of 1986 that he has never been able to forget - and who has now grown up. But she doesn't see him - he has become invisible!
At around the same time, several other Swedes discover they have superhero powers and realize that they must save the world from destruction, but they must come together and unite their powers!
The Day James McDougal Disappeared is a novel about never being able to forget your first youthful crush and feeling socially invisible, about material happiness or lack thereof. This is a novel about certainty and following your destiny.
Reviews:
"a subtle, thought-provoking and well-written sci-fi fantasy tale for adults about past and future, fatalism and the willingness to change... subtle and disturbing."
