The history of the Bornholm Amateur Archaeologists started 25 years ago, but the history we dig up from the Bornholm soil goes back much further. We have found 5000-year-old flint cross arrows, 1000-year-old silver treasures and gold treasures from the 5th century. We have found relic crosses, pearls and gold nuggets, but also modern items such as car keys and lost wedding rings.
The hope with this book is to reflect the association's love of archaeology. Reflect our pioneering spirit and the fine recognition we enjoy in Northern Europe when we go out as detector teams and assist various museums and universities abroad. And reflect our members' experiences in the fields and excavations of Bornholm - often in collaboration with the Bornholm Museum. For a number of years, De Bornholmske Amatørarkæologer has proudly been responsible for up to a third of all new Danefae submissions to the National Museum of Denmark. We are also proud that the best professionals from the National Museum, Bornholm Museum and several museums in Northern Europe contribute to this book by putting our finds in a historical perspective.
however, the most important thing about this book is to inspire others to go into the field and make an archaeological find. Because it gives such a wonderful historical rush when it happens.
