Flying is the great adventure of the 20th century, and Denmark has played a role in it. Not since the 1930s has there been a comprehensive work on Danish aviation, which 'Danmarks flyvehistorie' rectifies in a thoroughly illustrated and beautiful three-volume work. Danmarks flyvehistorie - De små fly is volume two.

Ole Steen Hansen knows the Denmark of the small planes personally and paints a vivid picture of the pilots and the passion that drives them. Many of the book's beautiful photos are taken by the author himself, when he has hung out of open windows in small airplanes and photographed those who flew close by.

Historically, the book tells of the many and varied uses of small airplanes in recreational flying, taxi flying, ambulance flying, photo flying and gliding, etc. And the author takes us on dramatic crime hunting in open biplanes, whooping cough flights with sick children, dramatic agricultural flights half a meter above the grain at 160km/h, the women's world championship in gliding over the Jutland moors, and about the Roskilde group, who in home-built planes with smoke behind them drew a heart in the sky over Copenhagen to pay tribute to the health workers during the Corona crisis. The book also tells about the important Danish aircraft production around World War II, about aerial photography from a balloon over Tivoli in the 1800s and much more.

Ole Steen Hansen (b. 1957) is an author, translator, photographer, pilot and aviation journalist. Based on his many years of work, he was awarded the Danish Authors' Association's non-fiction prize in 2019. Ole Steen Hansen has worked for many years to promote knowledge of the history of Danish aviation by creating vivid stories in words and pictures with people at the center.
