Historien om Hardy is another moving picture book story by Mette Eike Neerlin, this time beautifully illustrated by Peter Bay Alexandersen. Text and picture each tell their own story, and with its depiction of a child in trouble, the story is almost an extension of Mette Eike Neerlin's picture book from 2013, Historien om Ib Madsen, although the two books are not a series: One day Hardy moves in with Jakob. Hardy has red hair that is often spiky, freckles on his nose and gaps between his front teeth. He is stronger than most and a master of the long spit, and he wears a cloak of gold over his back. And by the way, he's invisible. But that's not all: Hardy is fearless. There is simply nothing that can make him afraid. Not darkness or noise or loud roars in the night. Or the silence that follows right after. Nor a black eye, nor the strange boy waiting outside Jacob's door one afternoon. The press writes: "The book gives us something to talk about, both about the children who need much more than bedtime stories and about our own defenses when life hurts." **** - Birgitte Sonne Kristensen, Nordjyske Stiftstidende "Despite the drawings' sometimes harsh narrative about Jakob's loneliness and his parents' abuse and neglect, it is a book about hope and humanity told in a thought-provoking way. The text and drawings each tell their own story, and without the pictures, the story would be completely different. Bay Alexandersen's drawings are fantastic, and there is no doubt about what it is like to be Jakob. " - Marianne Agger, Editor "As in the children's book Me and Glistrup [...] text and illustrations tell very different stories. The text tells mostly about Hardy, about how cool he is and what he says, while the very detailed and colorful illustrations [...] tell the story of a lonely and neglected - sometimes bruised - child in an alcoholic home. It's an excellent story. Especially if it can support children who recognize themselves in Jakob, and if the story creates an understanding of the Jakob's of this world in other children." - Birte Strandby, Bogvægten
