Trust is an act of daring. Showing trust is when you dare to believe that others will help and that they will not betray the trust you show.
Many professionals see a lack of trust as crucial to the challenges they experience when working with children and young people. However, the relationship is often perceived as one-way, expressed by the young people's trust in the professionals. This book complements the psychological perspective on the concept of trust with a sociological perspective that emphasizes the relational and reciprocal nature of trust between the professional and the child. Through concrete cases, the authors provide examples of how trust can be built and what trust means for children and young people.
The book is particularly aimed at professionals who work with children and young people in vulnerable positions, i.e. social workers, educators and psychologists, but also teachers, health visitors, doctors, psychiatrists, nurses and judges. It is also relevant for researchers and students at bachelor, master and graduate level.
