There is a war in Europe, not just a propaganda war. Not just hybrid war. Real war. Putin's Russia has taken aim at Ukraine's army and civilian population, at Ukraine's self-understanding and right to exist. But Russia is also at war against us, against the West, which in Putin's eyes controls Ukraine and wants to turn the country into an 'Anti-Russia'.

We can only be enemies collects five of Peter Pomerantsev's essays on the war in Ukraine. The book is about the arming of disinformation. It is about the motives and the imaginary universe that has driven Putin's Russia into the bloodiest war Europe has experienced since World War II. But not least, it is about Ukraine's spirit of resistance. And how the country's counter-strategies can inspire the world.
Peter Pomerantsev was born in 1977 in Kyiv and grew up in the UK. He is a Senior Fellow at Johns Hopkins University and the author of Nothing is true and everything is possible (2014) and This is not propaganda (2019). Pomerantsev's essays have appeared in Time Magazine, The Atlantic and The Guardian, among others.
